This may have to do with a gnulibtool stupidity of making the install_name libfoo.1.dylib but the real library is put into libfoo.1.x.y.dylib. It seems likely that the output of the prebinding tool is being set to the install_name. Especially as diff/cmp tell me that the 2 files differ.
Looks like redo_prebinding rewrites the file now; I've changed the bits that call redo_prebinding to follow the symlink so that redo_prebinding knows how to run on the right file.
