Fair enough. I'm happy that it is so easy to change compile time options. But I'm still interested in a more "intelligent" software managing system for sometime down the road. One would have to do a lot of prep work, however, it seems quite conceivable that one would be able to leverage the software to keep the amount of bug tracking work the same as it is now or lessen it. As you point out, there is a lot of repetition in the mailing list. If it was possible to include the knowledge gained by these experiments directly in the package manager, there'd be less traffic of the kind you're talking about.
