Sorry, I have to disagree.
Unless your package takes the steps outlined in the license to avoid the use of the GPL'd code in the library, the entire package should be marked as GPL (since the GPL will apply to any other package linking to the library).
Ah, that's true. For some reason I was thinking dynamic linking of the gzip stuff, but I guess it wouldn't be there at all then. =)
