I haven't looked at the code yet, but yes, in the case at hand it retries the same mirror again. I just tested again, it is still the same situation.
Another way to solve the problem currently would be to fire this eu.dl.sourceforge.net mirror from the mirror:custom:fink list. I have had mostly negative experiences with it recently. When I change this in the fink.info file to heanet.dl.sourceforge.net, it downloads OK. Why not take this? Apple France is in Ireland, the European presidency is in Ireland, why not have the European sourceforge mirror in Ireland, too? ;-)
