We had this once last January from someone trying to compile g77 (!), and recently several people seem to get this.
Google shows several dozen occurrences, but in no case I have seen any explanation for this error. The general recipe seems to be "rebuild gettext", maybe also libiconv.

My personal suspicion falls on the auto tools, because the only possible responsible for the construction of those weird symbols can be the configure script. The symbols with the _libintl_ prefix don't exist in the gimp2 sources. What do you get from "fink list -i auto libtool"?
