There are other problems with xquartz as well. While testing things for the xmkmf update on an xquartz-only system, I ran into several fink packages which wouldn't compile, including gtk+, openmotif3, and t1lib5-x11. I haven't investigated these closely -- perhaps they will be easily fixed -- but the lesson I think we are learning here is that supporting xquartz is going to be a major issue for fink.
