That makes some sense. Early versions of ffmpeg (around 0.4) published linker flags for all the libraries ffmpeg linked to (like amrnb), so anything that used libavcodec directly linked to these as well. Newer ffmpeg releases(0.6+ (0.5?) ) no longer do that, so a lot of the libraries are no longer linked to directly by 3rd party programs.
