This is a misunderstanding.
I did install gcc4.7 using the standard fink commands, I never tried to save
time bby manually simlinking things. I built it even 3 times, the first time it
came automatically when I tried to update a package (gildas), gcc4.7 was
requested and was installed first then gildas installation crashed because of
this compiler problem but I did not try to fiddle with anything at all and I
had already moved /usr/local.
I tried to rebuild gcc4.7. Same problem
I upgraded XCODE from 4.2.1 to 4.4.1 then rebuilt gcc4.7; Same problem.
Only afterwards, I tried to manually symlink gfortran back to gcc4.6 without
reinstalling gcc4.6 (I am not sure to know how to tell fink to supersede a
newer version with an older one by the way) and tried various combinations
following your suggestions. But in principle, I did the gcc4.7 install
correctly.

However I did "fink rebuild gcc4.7" while you mention "fink reinstall gcc4.7".
Should I try this one ? What is the difference ?
