Max,
 I found the package in unstable and, after installing the updated
openssl, it installed with no problems. The X11 forwarding is working
fine, in both directions.  The only issue I had was at the end of the
install you get a typical dpkg message about saving the config files. I
_thought_ it said the default was to preserve my config files but it
overwrote them anyhow. Perhaps I just misunderstood the screen. No big
deal as the only non default setting I use is to turn X11 forwarding
on.

Indeed, and if you want to see it in stable, then you should install 
it now and send feedback to me whether it works properly.

In particular, if anybody could test and see if X11 tunneling via our 
SSH still works, that would be most helpful.
