You are correct. I found a way to force fink to reprompt for a username when doing a selfupdate-cvs which isn't too horrible
1) move /sw/fink/CVS out of the way. 2) do 'fink selfupdate-cvs'. It will ask a few questions--including the login name to use with fink. -- Alexander K.
