G'day.
I'm having various problems with fink and compiling things; this seems to be
the best place to ask. Cheers to the developers for fink - its amazing, and
certainly makes my life a lot easier (apt rocks).
1. Some things I'm trying to compile require shared objects (.so files),
for example, the gtk theme "thinice". However, I can't locate things like
ldconfig or ld.so, and ./configure says "Can't create shared objects". I'm
sure there's a way to do it though, as there are fink packages that have
installed .so files onto the system.
2. XMMS - I love it (I loathe iTunes, heh) but I just can't get it working.
It refuses to talk to esound. I've tried reinstalling both the XMMS and
Esound packages, after upgrading fink, but it hasn't helped. XMMS gives me
the error "Please check that: 1. You have the correct output plugin
selected, 2. No other programs is blocking the soundcard, 3. Your soundcard
is configured properly.". The Esound plugin is selected.
If I run esd, I get the sample sounds, and:
root@stygian[/sw/fink/dists/unstable/main/finkinfo/net]# esd
using device Built-in audio controller for output:
with sample rate 44100.000000, 2 channels and 32-bit sample
using device Built-in audio controller for input:
with sample rate 44100.000000, 2 channels and 32-bit sample
So it seems to be working fine. I've also tried running it with specifying
the -port, and -tcp, and putting the appropriate settings into the Esound
plugin, but it still refuses to talk to it. I've tried the recommendations
on the fink page, but they did not help (running fink as both root/my user,
clearing files, etc...).
3. I'm also trying to compile evolution (fink install evolution). It wants
to compile a whole heap of other things, which is fine and dandy, until it
gets to the gnome control centre - and it fails with this error:
symbol _locale_charset used from dynamic library
/sw/lib/libiconv.2.dylib(localcharset.lo) not from earlier dynamic library
/sw/lib/libintl.1.dylib(localcharset.lo)
make[4]: *** [file-types-capplet] Error 1
make[3]: *** [all-recursive] Error 1
make[2]: *** [all-recursive] Error 1
make[1]: *** [all-recursive] Error 1
make: *** [all-recursive-am] Error 2
### make failed, exit code 2
Failed: compiling control-center-1.4.0.5-2 failed
If anybody knows of any solutions to these problems, I'd love to hear them -
they've had me stumped for quite sometime.
Cheers.
- Ryan
