Of course it can. Guessing from Linux/Unix experience, CUPS works very well with network printers (which may be flexibliy addressed using different protocols or "backends", like venerabla BSD-style LPR/LPD as described in RFC 1179, or HP JetDirect (a.k.a. "AppSocket"), or SMB/CIFS (if "Samba" is installed on the CUPS box) or AppleTalk (if NetATalk is installed), or IPP (Internet Printing Protocol; the protocol CUPS clients and CUPS servers use automatically amongst themselves...) It also work well for locally connected printers: serial, parallel and USB(*) backends are available, with SCSI and Firewire under development... What is missing? (*)USB support is also heavily dependent on the built-in support for USB in the OS in question and I am not familiar with current go's and no-go's of Mac OS X on this field. > or whether it can only print to a remote LPD queue.
