Your still stuck in the pay for >> licenses situation. Something we were trying to get away from. If cost is an issue, then the price of the OS X licenses is the least of your problems. If you really want to go the cheap route, the solution would be to download a Debian ISO and install it on your existing PCs and find a manufacturer that pre-installs Linux when you' re buying new. There is a continuing debate that Macintoshes appear to be more expensive up front, but cost less to own in the long-term. Start here http://www.cmi.k12.il.us/Urbana/ymac.htm and you'll find tons of info & links that support the Mac. (I tend to believe it :) IMHO, Unfortunately, KDE, Gnome, et.al. do *not* look good side-by-side with Mac OS X, what with the polished look-&-feel and smooth fonts, and the performance is less than stellar. If you want to run only Darwin + KDE, then the question arises, what's the point of getting Macs? They'll come pre-installed with OS X anyway. To answer another topic - I haven't read too deeply into it, but it appears that you can get Linux laptops, without the MS Tax if you work hard enough to find them -- http://mobilix.org/mylaptops.html >> >> So, I have a few more days to play around with OS X before I have my last >> opportunity to return the computer for a refund and I am wondering what >> other people more used to OS X would advise. >> >> Thanks, >> >> Curtis >> Good luck to you. Whatever direction you take, I hope we get to hear a progress report sometime in the future about yet another organization recovering from addiction problems ;-) Ken Engel ------------------------------------------------------- This sf.net email is sponsored by:ThinkGeek Welcome to geek heaven. http://thinkgeek.com/sf _______________________________________________ Fink-users mailing list [EMAIL PROTECTED] https://lists.sourceforge.net/lists/listinfo/fink-users
