As you were thinking, if you can find that same file -- same name, same 
contents (if the name is different no big deal -- just change it) then 
yes, you can grab it from an alternate source & keep going.

Fink is pretty stupid as far as this goes. All it knows is that in order 
to build a package $foo, it needs to have ${foo}.tar.gz (or whatever) on 
your system to begin. If it's not there, the package description tells 
Fink where it might be found, but if the file is already available then 
Fink will skip the download & just go with what it finds. 

All you have to do is save the file to /sw/src:

  % cd /sw/src
  % sudo wget http://alternate.source.for/package.tgz
  % sudo fink install package
