This can be an effective solution, but it's better to [a] just download
and copy to /sw/src the file you need (or, as was also suggested, use
"fink configure" to add other download directories), and [b] let the
package maintainer know that there is a problem. This will allow the
package to be updated so that all Fink users can benefit from the fix. To
find the package maintainer, do a "fink info $package" and scan the output
that gives you.

Could be. Wasn't part of the fix there to do a "fink selfupdate-cvs"? I
forget now...
