I just tried disabling the mouse button emulation in XDarwin, and that
didn't help. I normally have Shift for left button and Option for
right. I usually use XDarwin in rootless mode running icewm. I use
emacs, kdvi, and gimp quite often, without problems.

Yes, I built from source. The only other hint I can think of is that
when I start up the konsole, I get an error "TERM_PROGRAM: Undefined
variable." But the problem isn't limited to the konsole, it occurs in
konqueror (kate however, won't start up at all ... dlcompat complains
about an undefined variable "main". Let me know if you want the full
error message, or to try anything else.)
I have a lot of third party preference panes installed, but I just
disabled those and it didn't help.
I did not do a clean reinstall of all my fink packages when I upgraded
to 10.2, so there may be some package I should rebuild.
