In bash,

bind -P

"\M" is the meta key. I find that in Terminal.app, the meta key is mapped to the Option key on the
keyboard, while in xterm it is the Command key (the 'apple' key). I'm sure there's a way to customize
this so their consistent...when I get around to it I'll figure it out...:}
