I don't have much experience with dselect, the interface is just too awful. If you want to install binaries from the command line, I'd recommend apt-get. Just do "sudo apt-get update" and then replace "fink install" by "sudo apt-get install". It is, in general, quite intelligent in resolving dependencies.
