In the past few days, I've noticed some odd troubles with
updating using 'fink' (i.e. fink selfupdate, fink update-all,
fink install).
curl seems to be having no luck getting source packages through
ftp.
In most cases, I get errors like "curl: (13) Odd return code
after PASV" or "curl: (11) Odd return code after PASS".
Other times, curl just seems to hang when attempting to download
from a site.
I then try to contact the various mirrors directly with ncftp to
see if I can get more feedback.
I can connect fine to ftp sites, but when I attempt to do an
'ls', I get an error that says "Passive mode refused".
If I attempt to get a file that I assume should be there (like
the tarball that fink was looking for in the first place), it
borks with an error like "server said: data connection
establishment failed".
Can someone please assist me in figuring out what's going on
here? Up until very recently I was having no problems at all
using passive FTP to get fink updates through our corporate
firewall.
All the feedback here seems to indicate that the problem is at
the FTP server end, but I have a hard time believing that.
Can someone give me some advice on how to debug this problem?
Is the problem with my local firewall? If so, how do I gather
more information about what's going on so I can go and politely
ask our IT people to fix what they've changed?
