I've been struggling some more with this (I have a deadline coming up of course...) and I reckon the problem is really ghostscript. I'm using ghostscript 8, and I tried reverting to ghostscript 6 but that didnt help. However, some of the eps files I was trying to use seem to be broken when I try to use them in xfig, and if I avoid or redraw the problem ones, I can get by.
These same eps files are fine in latex -> xdvi -> dvips -> viewing in gv, which is why I didn't suspect them at first. The same ghostscript is being called by gv, of course, but perhaps with different options? And xfig seems to produce a version of the "landscape" bug I reported in relation to tetex! It certainly didn't used to. I'm exporting an A0 landscape fig to ps, and gv shows it clipped on the right as though something is only allowing the image size to be portrait. (With latex it was the pdf file that had this trait, the ps was fine...) But this time exporting as pdf works (I must try to figure out the flags and see if that works for latex...) so I have a workaround... So...my guess is that ghostscript is the common factor here, but I don't know how... -- Viv On Fri, 7 Mar 2003, Viv Kendon wrote: > I'm having intermittent problems with xfig since installing > the binaries for XFree86-4.3.0 (direct from their website). > I've tried rebuilding xfig, xaw3d and fvwm2 (the window > manager I'm using full screen) but haven't managed to > exorcise the problems yet, so if anyone has suggestions I'd > be grateful. > > First problem was that "picture objects" that I edited and > clicked "reread" for would come up black, and refuse to > display as the picture again until I reloaded the whole fig. > That seems to have gone away with the rebuilds for the > moment. > > Then an eps displayed broken lines when I imported it as a > picture object.
