I know no-one is replying here -- that's OK -- but given the
level of hassle I'm having with xfig I thought I should
report it and at least warn other xfig users they might be
in for a rough ride.

I lost my entire xfig creation when it corrupted the fig
file it was saving (did I mention I had a deadline?).  The
problems are definitely triggered by xfig interacting with
ghostscript, and more often than corrupting the saved file,
it crashes with similar errors to those I already reported.

I have had one other person report similar levels of
problems on a linux platform, so it seems likely there are
bugs that need to be fixed upstream rather than in the fink
distributions.

But do save your fig file under another name frequently if
you are going to use the current version!
