Dependencies and manually installed packages:
Have been using KDE 3.0.7 for a while now without problems and decided to upgrade to the new 3.1-18 (kdebase3-ssl) in stable. After following the dependencies for the various versions of tetex and ghostscript, fink tells me the extra programs that need to be installed (as expected).
One of these is fileutils, which I have previously installed on my own (to /usr/local) outside of fink and works perfectly. Do I need to install the fink fileutils or can I modify the info file into the local tree to remove the fileutils dependency (doxygen seems to be the dependent package)? And will my fink recognize future updates to doxygen or will the local tree doxygen info file override anything in stable?
Fink will not recognize your existing fileutils, you will need to build the one in fink for the installation to continue. You may be able to modify the doxygen package, but it's not suggested, fink considers itself a closed system, outside interaction may or may not work, but often causes difficult-to-track-down issues.
