The problem with the Palm USB drivers is that they do not show up as serial ports.

For reference, the IrDA port on my TiBook shows up as /dev/tty.IrDA-IrCOMMch-b and the Bluetooth chip shows up as /dev/tty.Bluetooth-Modem and /dev/tty.Bluetooth-PDA-Sync. Although I haven't tried it, I presume that one could symlink e.g. /dev/tty.IrDA-IrCOMMch-b to /dev/pilot and run pilot-link normally.

Whether Palm uses a proprietary protocol or the standard USB serial protocol in disguise, I don't know, but it's been reverse engineered and incorporated into the Linux kernel several years ago (2001?). I intended to port the Linux drivers to Darwin a few years ago but never got started and now I'm happy with iSync.

What functionality do you require that Palm Desktop and iSync can't provide?

Not that I've seen (I'm in the same boat). I believe there has been some ongoing discussion on the pilot-link list about this, but nothing has come of it as of yet.

Hi,

I was wondering if it is possible to use pilot-link with a Handspring Visor Platinum or any other USB Palm device at all?

The problem seems to be the lack of the /dev/pilot file. Is there any solution to this?

Thanks,
Stephan
