Instead I used the GPL program "USB-TCP Bridge" <http://osx-palm-tools.sourceforge.net/>, which creates a bridge between the USB port and TCP port 14238. Since pilot-link knows about TCP port 14238 ("setenv PILOTPORT net:"), I successfully use them to talk. Here's an example:
------------------------------
> setenv PILOTPORT net: ; pilot-xfer -l
Listening to port: net:
Please press the HotSync button now... Connected
Reading list of databases in RAM... DocCategories Beam Box Favorites (snip)
List complete. 121 files found. Time elapsed: 0:00:55 ------------------------------ And of course "pilot-xfer -p net: -l" gives me the same result.
The settings I used for USB-TCP Bridge (which is a Cocoa program) are: "Listen on USB and connect to TCP port" TCP Port: 14238 (pilot-link) and press the "Start Bridge" button.
(And of course the Palm background apps listening for a connection, if any, should be turned off.)
I can't get malsync to work though, which was the real reason I jumped through all these hoops in the first place--to get AvantGo working again. If anyone here finds a way, please post it!
