the problem is that I didn't install system-gs 8.
it's rather latex2rtf which tries to install it:

that's why i think there's an issue.
indeed, fink install latex2html worked fine whereas previously
% fink install latex2rtf latex2html failed.
now, fink install latex2rtf still bugs me:
