I feel a little slow asking this, but what exactly do you mean "installing the fink cvs package". I thought that running the fink selfupdate -cvs updated from the cvs?
Do I need to change my configuration of the fink installation I have or wipe it and install it another way?
Or do I need to bypass the inherrent cvs pkg that apple installs (or broke with 10.2.8)? Upon rereading your messge a couple of times, that's what I'm leaning toward. So, how does one do that exactly? :)
Thanks,
Brandon Potter

This error may be due to something in 10.2.8--it first showed up on the
lists about the time that 10.2.8 was initially released. People have been
installing the Fink cvs package--it apparently doesn't have this problem.

Subject: [Fink-users] fink updating failed (diff error)
Hello all, I'm geting some rather strange problems that I only started noticing since I updated to 10.2.8. I use gnumeric about once a week and abiword on occasion. Those apps wouldn't launch because of a library problem so I decided to update my installation (since things have been working fine for awhile I've not been selfupdating weekly like some recommend). I saw a different CVS error message previously on the list, and I don't think they're the same. Here's the error I get :
[Brandon-Potters-Computer:~] gbp% fink selfupdate -cvs sudo /sw/bin/fink selfupdate -cvs Password:
Your Fink installation is set up to update package descriptions directly from CVS. Do you want to use this setup and update now? [Y/n] y
I will now run the cvs command to retrieve the latest package descriptions. The 'su' command will be used to run the cvs command as the user 'gbp'. After that, the core packages will be updated right away; you should then update the other packages using commands like 'fink update-all'.
su gbp -c 'cvs -z3 update -d -P' *** malloc: vm_allocate(size=1342177280) failed with 3 *** malloc[494]: error: Can't allocate region cvs [update aborted]: can not reallocate 1342177280 bytes ### execution of su failed, exit code 1 Failed: Updating using CVS failed. Check the error messages above. [Brandon-Potters-Computer:~] gbp%
Any help will be much appreciated. Thanks, Brandon Potter P.S.Maybe now that I'm sending this thru the right account it won't be rejected by the list admin :)
