Dear Benjamin,
My-oh-my.... building qt3 after first removing it (after first removing the arts, arts-shlib etc. that were depending on it) failed! So now I am without a working qt3.... sigh..
I guess I was too quick really.....
I send you the complete Terminal output in a .txt file. There are some error messages in the middle complaining about "uic: cannot load image file images/designer_***.png" which might be crucial.
Yup. Looks like we need to be more drastic in removal. Does it help if you remove your ~/.qt directory before building?
If you don't want to go through the entire build process to find out if it helps, you can do the following:
cd /sw/src/qt3-3.2.2-1/qt-x11-free-3.2.2 export QTDIR=`pwd` export DYLD_LIBRARY_PATH=`pwd`/lib rm -rf tools/designer/designer/qmake_image_collection.cpp make
...if it's then capable of building libdesignercore, then I can work around that too in the qt build; if not, you'll need to remove /sw/lib/qt3-plugins -- that's the real problem (the new version of uic is finding the old plugins and bombing out, and there doesn't seem to be any way to make it not look at the old plugins).

If we didn't, we would have made something else be the default. So keep your cotton-pickin' hands off our defaults. Don't touch. Consider them mandatory. "Mandatory defaults" has a nice ring to it.
