Hi Group,

Thanks very much for everyone’s comments and suggestions.  Here is the result...
I had not installed the X11 SDK from the Xcode CD, so installed it.  After that, fink was in a funk.  I deleted the /sw directory, then reinstalled fink from the 0.6.2 binary distribution.  Ran fink selfupdate, which went fine.  Now when I install ethereal, it does not list any XFree86 packages as dependencies.
