-- then it forks perl processes until the proc table is full
and I have to restart!

fink list perl | grep "^ i"
 i system-perl 5.6.0-1 [virtual package representing perl]
type perl
perl is /usr/bin/perl

I have the feeling this must be something wrong on my dual
G4, since I managed to install the exact same things without
a hitch on my TiBook. (This is the first install I tried
since a power failure late last week while I was away.
Didn't report any unusual errors during reboot, but...)

Anyone have any ideas what to check next?

If not, I guess I'll grab the .deb file from my TiBook and
hope I don't hit any more similar snags in future.

many thanks,
-- Viv
