I just hit a problem trying to install db42-ssl (ver 4.2.52-2):
checking for fort77 option to produce PIC... -fno-common checking if fort77 PIC flag -fno-common works...
-- then it forks perl processes until the proc table is full and I have to restart!
It seems you found a new efficient method to bring a Jaguar to its knees :-)
It works for me, too. Actually, if I hit Ctrl-C and wait a while, the system recovers. I have no time now to investigate who is to blame for this,
- autoconf
- libtool
- db42
- fort77
or if it's a conspiracy between all of these, but if you
- either remove fort77
- or install g77 or another "real" fortran compiler,
the problem will go away.
I suspect this problem will appear with other autoconf-generated configure scripts, too.
