the .profile hasFollow the instructions on <http://fink.sourceforge.net/doc/x11/tips.php#terminal-app>, especially the second and third paragraphs, then you can launch whichever X11 applications you want directly from the terminal. Or if you don't want to launch Apple's X11 at login (second paragraph), launch the applications with:
. /sw/bin.init.sh
and it does; I also set my display to use X11
export DISPLAY=":0.0"
and so I can launch qcad and xinvaders from Terminal.app but I cannot launch gimp and abiword. When I try fink install gimp I just get the message that there's no packages to install.
open-x11 app.
When I try to run gimp I get the following: -bash: gimp: command not foundNormal if you installed gimp2, you have to launch it with: gimp-2.0
So, I resume:
1 - In System preferences, Accounts preferences panel, third tab: put Apple's X11 app, then (while you're at it), Terminal app, check hidden (if it's more convenient to you).
2 - add [[ -z $DISPLAY ]] && export DISPLAY=":0.0" in your .bashrc (create it if it does not exist).
3 - launch the app with the right name
Hi Michele ,
I hope that helps , but I would be surprised . I am interested to find out what you think Brandon had done or is doing incorrectly ?
Cheers , Lloyd
