It varies. None of them will cause permanent damage to your system--the main risk is that a package won't build. On the other hand, some of the packages there are fine, but can't be moved to stable untill all of their dependencies are.

Thanks Brandon.

My next question is whether there are any risks involved with using the
unstable tree. Are the packages in fact unstable? Nobody seems to report
any problems with the unstable tree, and the criterion for moving clamAV
to the stable tree recently was the fact that a few us inquired about it.

So, is it better to use the unstable tree?

And, yes, updating (rsync) the unstable tree did reveal that the latest
abiword version is 2.0.6-1. So, I guess the question is how long is "very
slowly"? More than a minute?

Thank you very much.

Hello,
I'm not sure what trees you're using, but I've got stable & unstable
in mine. I updated all via fink a few days ago and my version of
Abiword is 2.06, NOT 2.03. It launches; slowly, very slowly, but it
launches. Very slowly on a 1.25 GHz G4. Very slowly. :) After it
launches, however, it seems to respond fine. I use it fairly often and
don't notice it being slow after it's already been running.
I'm not sure what version is in stable currently, but you should have
at least 2.06 if you just updated with unstable.
Hope that helps,
Brandon Potter

P.S.--If you don't understand stable vs unstable, see the following:

Everyone,

Does anyone have Abiword 2.0.3 running? I installed it from source
last night, and the program never managed to launch.

Thanks.
