thanks for the confirmation that the problem is local to my system. I will try it on my TiBook next and see if that works...(I just remembered I can log into it even though it is 200 miles away at the moment).

MacTypes.h (found with "locate MacTypes.h"):

/Developer/Headers/FlatCarbon/MacTypes.h

/System/Library/Frameworks/CoreServices.framework/Versions/A/Frameworks/CarbonCo
re.framework/Versions/A/Headers/MacTypes.h

The former is not a symlink and the two versions differ.

I think the files themselves are probably OK:

bramley:/Users/viv-47> ls -l /Developer/Headers/FlatCarbon/MacTypes.h
4 -rw-rw-r-- 1 root admin 39 Sep 13 2003 /Developer/Headers/FlatCarbon/MacTypes.h
ls -l /System/Library/Frameworks/CoreServices.framework/Versions/A/Frameworks/CarbonCore.framework/Versions/A/Headers/MacTypes.h
28 -rw-r--r-- 1 root wheel 28131 Sep 26 2003 /System/Library/Frameworks/CoreServices.framework/Versions/A/Frameworks/CarbonCore.framework/Versions/A/Headers/MacTypes.h

but the many and varied symlinks that point to them and their parent dirs are another matter entirely...

Do you have the latest XCode?

Yes...and the build worked fine on my TiBook. OK, I guess that means I need to reinstall part of OSX and see if that fixes it...would anyone happen to know which bit? And whether it has been updated since 10.3.1 so I need to reapply the update package as well?? How does one figure these things out?

For the record, this was fixed eventually by installing XCode1.5 twice (the first reinstall didn't help). Sigh...
