Following up to myself:
I asked the question on comp.mail.mutt and the issue seems rather
unclear. Apparently a few users on Mac are experiencing this
(also one who got mutt from darwinport) and the advice was to
compile a current version with fink completely disabled.
Now, I am a lazy person (one of the main reasons I am a happy
fink user ;-) ) but this is rather annoying -- apperently opening
a mailbox doesn't always update access time.
I am willing to try out some stuff but don't know where to start.
