Thanks, Wayne, Richard, and Alexander... the upshot seems to be that
either the Cygwin X server or the apps are buggy, possibly both. I may
have another X server to try on the Windows machine, so I'll see what
the results are with that. If I notice it working in that server, I'll
go bug the Cygwin mailing lists... ;-)
