Hi all,

I've been following the recent issues with xpdf, and I've come across a different problem. When I try to run xpdf, I get "No display font" errors. For example:

% xpdf sample.pdf
Error: No display font for 'Courier'
Error: No display font for 'Courier-Bold'
Error: No display font for 'Courier-BoldOblique'
Error: No display font for 'Courier-Oblique'
Error: No display font for 'Helvetica'
Error: No display font for 'Helvetica-Bold'
Error: No display font for 'Helvetica-BoldOblique'
Error: No display font for 'Helvetica-Oblique'
Error: No display font for 'Symbol'
Error: No display font for 'Times-Bold'
Error: No display font for 'Times-BoldItalic'
Error: No display font for 'Times-Italic'
Error: No display font for 'Times-Roman'
Error: No display font for 'ZapfDingbats'

Then the pdf displays, minus those (I assume) fonts. For other pdf's, there are even more fonts shown as missing. The interesting thing (to me), is that I've got two machines with very nearly identical fink setups, and this problem is only seen on one.

Here's some version info:

% fink -V
Package manager version: 0.23.5
Distribution version: 0.7.1.rsync
(. . .)

% fink list xpdf
Information about 4406 packages read in 5 seconds.
i xpdf 3.00-12 Viewer for Portable Document Format (PDF)...

This is on OS X 10.3.7, with unstable tree enabled.

One possible issue (maybe?), is that the /sw directory on the problematic machine is actually a symlink to a separate partition. I haven't seen any other errors or problems that I could attribute to this, but I figured it is a possible problem.

Any thoughts?

Thanks,
Mike

Have you had xorg installed and then removed it, by any chance?

Nope. I probably didn't explain my setup adequately. I've got Apple's X11 installed (and SDK), which is pretty much the way it's been since I installed 10.3. At one point (long ago) I had xfree installed. But since then it's been Apple's X11. xpdf was working, but I rarely use it. So I don't know when it stopped working properly.

Thanks,
Mike
