Unfortunately, having to fight with freetype all the time doesn't make me a specialist ;-) . And I am ashamed to say that on the present topic, I am in the camp of the "no bold" people. I tried a couple of the standard gestures, but so far nothing worked, and I am not seeing bold fonts, neither in mozilla nor in firefox under X11. Weird.
