Just to add some basic specs to the raw output file:

sw_vers
ProductName: Mac OS X
ProductVersion: 10.3.8
BuildVersion: 7U16

fink --version
Package manager version: 0.23.3
Distribution version: 0.7.1.rsync

The /sw folder (no name change) is on another volume
(on the same ATA bus) and symlinked back to the boot
HD.

OK.

I'm using gcc 3.3 (XCode 1.5) with Apple's "November
patch" that is meant to resolve compiler issues
(..right ?)

That's correct--I don't think they afflicted qt in any case.

Your error didn't look familiar. You might consider installing the relevant qt packages from the binary distribution (same version) via "sudo apt-get install <packagenames>", where <packagenames> refers to the packages you need to install..

Or, better yet, if you aren't yet using fink-0.23.3, run "fink selfupdate" to get it,

After you have this version run "fink configure" and when prompted whether to "Use packages from the binary distribution when available" say Y. Run "fink selfupdate" again, and then try once more to install scribus--fink should try to use the binary distribution and save you some time and effort.
