Sorry, I failed to make it clear in this thread that I was using XFree86 (I
think it is clear in my post on the beginners list). I attempted to compile
Xorg. I get what I'm assuming is a standard message about what to do to
convert from Xfree86 to Xorg. By all appearances it looks like it might be
about as simple as changing my citizenship, although I did something similar
to get XFree86 to work with Apple's X11. My remaining question is "Will I
need to jump through the hoops you described in your posting about Gimp 2.0
sent Saturday, September 11, 2004 4:35 PM, or is it simpler with the version
of xorg that's now available?" I'll worry about the maintainer another time.
Right now I'm interested in any workaround that will let Gimp 2.2 launch.
Thanks.
In general a URL pointing at one of the several message archives would probably make the answer a little easier--that way people won't have to look up the message themselves.
In lieu of doing that, then, I can say that _if_ you install xorg (not being exactly sure about the nature of the "hoops") then gimp-2.2 should run with no problems.
