You are right, I did get a reply from Martin and I appreciate it but that did not tell me anything that I already did not know (I knew that the problem was an extra libfreetype.dylib).

To answer your question (and as I said in the first email), the only libfreetype.dylib's are here:
/usr/X11R6/lib/libfreetype.dylib
/opt/local/lib/libfreetype.dylib (installed by darwin ports, this can't be the one interfering, can it?)

Hmmm...I wouldn't think so, but try temporarily renaming it (or even /opt/local/lib) and see what happens.
