file doe snot exist. So i reinstalled dev tools. Seems to have fixed the issue. what a day! I dunno what i did before but i must have done a custom install.

Does that file really not exist?  What's ls -l /usr/lib/crt1.o say?

If it doesn't exist, you can reinstall the DevSDK package which provides it. Insert your Tiger DVD, navigate to the System/ Installation/Packages folder on it, and run DevSDK. If that turns out to be the problem, did you do a custom install?
