A prior posted workaround was to try removing gettext-dev before building libiconv. See if that works.

The real advice behind this simplified version is to get /sw/lib/libintl.la out of the way, because this file contains a hard-wired "/sw/lib/libiconv.la".

In the old days libintl.la was installed by the gettext-dev package, hence the advice. But nowadays libintl.la can also be installed by the libgettext3-dev package. Run "dpkg -S libintl.la" to see which one it is for you.

So the new version of the workaround should be "remove gettext-dev and libgettext3-dev before building libiconv."

I'm sorry but for me that doesn't help. I get the same error-message.
I still can't install or update anything. Does anyone have any idea how to solve this problem?

Anyway "sudo mv /sw/lib/libintl.la /sw/lib/libintl.la_away" should unblock the situation.
