I'm trying to update a number of packages using Fink Commander, and have another package burp on me where it seems that re-running the update might fix it.

An idea occurred to me and I wondered what others out there might think of it (especially since I'm not a programmer by trade, so please don't reply with "do it yourself" type answers...). I thought if this was a good enough idea, maybe someone in the project would be interested in looking into integrating it.

What if there were a function during the build where if a package fails, Fink (or Fink Commander, or another utility) could go out and query by package and package version a central bug repository or mailing list archive for instances of that package "giving trouble" to other people? If It were integrated in, it would reduce the number of "Package XYZ isn't working for me" questions that were just discussed not even a day ago. While it's easy to bitch that these users don't search the archive, there are times where I delete messages from the mailing list without reading them only to have the problems mentioned before come up a few days later and I admit I've taken the lazy way sometimes (and other times I have searched through archives and googled for answers).

It would take more effort since there's have to be recoding and a database set up for the application to query it and organize results, but it may help with things, no? I know it would be convenient to come back to a failed build after I thought it should all be done and have a window popped up with a list of messages sent to the list or to a bug database with similar problems and possible solutions available...

Just an idea.
