No, I don't. What I don't get is why I'm affected, but (apparently?) not everyone. Is there perhaps some cache involved? Anything else I could try?

I don't know. To be honest, the last two times this came up, a week ago on fink-beginners, for example, the question was not answered either. We tried a couple of things, but the details of the real mechanism of the failure were not uncovered. It happened in slightly different situations. If you run dpkg or dpkg-deb from the command line, is there an error, too?
