My sw/fink folder has both the 10.4

Totally irrelevant.  Mine has 10.2, 10.2-gcc3.3, 10.3, ...

I generally use Fink Commander, and the table says that I

Look at /sw/etc/fink.conf and see what the Distribution line says.
That's the real arbiter.
