I am running the latest unstable fink on a G4. I am considering replacing Apple's X11 with xorg, to help troubleshoot an xorg problem under Linux (I've got a video/card monitor combination that works fine under OS X, but not when running xorg under Linux. I hope to reduce the number of variables by trying Fink's xorg, and thus learn something).
What are the implications of replacing X11 with Fink's xorg packages? Will I have to rebuild a large number of packages? Will fink know enough to automatically rebuild the packages, or are there a list that I should rebuild, or do I just rebuild the ones that no longer work? Is there an easy way to switch back to Apple's X11 later, if I so desire? Are there any issues with the xorg packages that I would want to know about before I do this switch?
