Sorry if ???'s bother you so much. I am assuming that the libs in /usr/lib must be systems libraries. If not, then they must be leftover from an attempt to use GentooOSX or DarwinPorts, but I could not say which. Both installs should be cleared from this machine to the best of my knowledge. In short, my questions are aimed at figuring out where the possible sources of interference are.
