I'll elucidate further: Fink's -build- process for _that_ version of svn builds a number of other packages at the same time--including the python bindings which require X11. This was a choice. For version in 10.4/unstable, different choices were made in how to build it. For an ab-intitio build on 10.4, you would see: The following package will be rebuilt: svn The following 34 additional packages will be installed: apr-dev aprutil-dev autoconf automake1.9 cyrus-sasl2-dev cyrus-sasl2-shlibs daemonic db44-aes db44-aes-shlibs expat expat-shlibs gettext-bin gettext-tools glib-shlibs io-string-pm libapr0-shlibs libaprutil0-shlibs libgettext3-dev libgettextpo2-shlibs libiconv-dev libtool14 libtool14-shlibs libxml2 libxml2-bin libxml2-shlibs m4 neon25 neon25-shlibs openldap23-dev openldap23-shlibs pkgconfig readline5-shlibs system-openssl-dev texinfo So we agree--it is possible to refactor it. -- Alexander K.
