As to the substance, your msg seems unrelated to imagemagick,
but only relates to popt , as you say yourself.

And AM_GNU_GETTEXT is certainly not a symbol, but a macro !
I guess in /sw/share/aclocal/gettext.m4,
so I would suggest rebuilding and then re-installing:
# dlocate -S  /sw/share/aclocal/gettext.m4
gettext-tools: /sw/share/aclocal/gettext.m4
