I am now seeing the same. I am completely baffled. There is no change to 
the preceding version, and that one installed OK.

This is a completely bogus error message. The file is OK(*) and has a 
decent START-INFO-DIR-ENTRY section. And it actually gets installed and 
works with "info plplotdoc"! Very strange.

(*) *Something* must be wrong with the file, because when I execute the 
install-info command from the postinst script by hand, I get the same 
error message. I don't get the error message if I run install-info on, 
let's say, octave.info or recode.info etc. But even staring at the file 
for a long time I cannot see anything wrong with it.
